Project Background
This was an academic project for a course I attended titled Remote Sensing and Image Interpretation. I was given four high altitude aircraft aerial images of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The images had no spatial reference.
Process
Using a shapefile provided by ESRI from data given with the ArcGIS student license, I georeferenced the photos to the shapefile. The Rio Grand is the main feature that was used to reference the images. To match reference points, I looked for bridges over the river as well as distinct shapes out of the main city area like the airport. One of the main challenges was to determine the order of the photos top to bottom. The photos overlap and I had to choose which edge lined up better on top or bottom. I then symbolized the shapefile for easy interpretation over the black and white images.
